A threat actor with the alias httpd has posted a partial database dump from the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) on a dark web forum. This leak reportedly exposes personal details of some banking professionals in Nigeria, including:
- Full names
- Email addresses
- Mobile numbers
- Membership information
This breach targets CIBN, the main professional body that oversees standards and ethics within Nigeria’s banking industry. The institute has been in existence since 1976 and is legally backed by the CIBN Act. It counts major financial institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, NDIC, commercial banks, microfinance banks, and mortgage banks among its corporate members.
Leaks like this pose serious risks. Exposing bankers’ personal and contact details opens the door to phishing attacks, identity theft, and broader social engineering schemes that could affect individuals and their organizations.
