A threat actor, darkMods, recently advertised a massive 10GB data leak allegedly stolen from the General Secretariat of the Algerian Government. The files include official documents linked to key Algerian institutions, among them:
- Ministry of Finance
- Official Journal
- National Democratic Institute
- General Tax Administration
- Government of Algeria
- Anti-terrorism Assistance Program
- Embassy communications labeled “OFFICIAL USE ONLY”
- Budget documents (including “ALGERIA – FY2010 BUDGET”)
The leak also lists external or related bodies such as the American Bar Association and the National Conference of State Legislatures, raising questions about how widely data might have been shared or referenced.
According to the actor, this data was extracted straight from Algerian government systems. While there is no technical sample shown yet, the scale of files advertised, covering financial records, diplomatic references, and domestic programs, makes it a significant exposure if authentic.
This incident adds to Algeria’s growing list of high-profile breaches in recent months, once again underlining the need for stronger cyber defenses across critical government networks.
