A new listing on a dark web forum shows a threat actor offering up a staggering 60 million records tied to Nigerian telecom subscribers.
The post, spotted on June 27, was made by a user operating under the alias ScribeOfBabylon, who claims to have extensive telecom data from Nigeria and is offering it for sale at 0.025 BTC (roughly $1,500). A sample file was linked via a paste service, but no additional technical details were provided on what telecom providers are impacted.
From the sample file shared, the data includes:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Address
- City
- Phone Number
This means millions of Nigerians could now be exposed to risks like targeted scams, phishing, or identity theft. With details like full names, phone numbers, and physical addresses all in one place, it is much easier for criminals to craft convincing cyber attacks.
It is also another sign of how widespread data breaches are becoming across Africa. In just the past few months, we have seen leaks from government agencies, hospitals, universities, and now one of the continent’s biggest telecom providers.
We will keep monitoring the situation and watching dark web channels for more developments. For now, anyone who receives suspicious calls or messages should be extra cautious and avoid sharing personal information.
