Pro-Palestinian hacktivist Hider_Nex, along with affiliated actor Keymous Plus, has allegedly carried out a series of cyberattacks targeting multiple government and media websites in Uganda. The group claims the action is in protest against Uganda’s perceived strong ties with Israel.
The first reported incident was the Uganda Wildlife Education and Conservation Centre (uwec.ug), which was rendered inaccessible, with proof-of-down status provided via Check-Host reports. Hider_Nex then expanded the campaign to include additional high-profile targets such as:
- National Library of Uganda
- Ministry of Public Service
- Office of the Prime Minister
- Ministry of Health
- Uganda Registration Services Bureau
- Ministry of Internal Affairs
- Electricity Regulatory Authority
- Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL)
- Hydro power production systems
- Red Pepper and Newsfeed Uganda news outlets
The group’s messages, posted on Telegram, included anti-Israel hashtags and Check-Host screenshots as evidence of the outages. While the exact method of disruption was not disclosed, the attacks appear to be DDoS or otherwise aimed at making the sites temporarily unavailable.
