A threat actor known as DAYzer0DAY, claiming ties to the “SYLHET GANG-SG,” has posted what they allege is a breach involving over 30,000 records from Alexandria University in Egypt. According to the listing on a popular dark web forum, the leaked data includes:
- National IDs
- Full names and addresses
- Phone numbers and emails
- University codes and student records
The threat actor also provided a download link along with a partial sample that appears to contain Arabic text listing names and identifiers, adding weight to the claim. If authentic, this poses serious privacy risks for students and staff, opening the door to identity theft, targeted scams, and further breaches.
This incident underscores the growing threat to educational institutions across Africa, which often handle vast amounts of personal data with limited cybersecurity resources.
CyHawk Africa will continue monitoring this situation and advocate for stronger data protection practices in universities and colleges across the continent.
