South Africa’s Ingonyama Trust Board (ITB) has reportedly fallen victim to a ransomware attack by the notorious Nightspire group.
The Ingonyama Trust Board is a key institution tasked with the administration of communal land in KwaZulu-Natal on behalf of the Zulu nation. A compromise of this magnitude could expose land agreements, personal records, legal documents, and financial information—posing both national and cultural security risks.
The attackers have issued an ultimatum. If the ransom isn’t paid within the stipulated period, the stolen data may be released to the public or sold on underground marketplaces.
